The Last Man on Earth: The Complete First Season {Review & Giveaway}

Apocalypse entertainment is so popular nowadays which is great for people like my husband who love intense entertainment. Unfortunately for me, I prefer lighthearted entertainment that helps me relax or laugh. Well, I finally found an apocalypse show that makes me laugh!

The Last Man on Earth centers around Phil, who has survived a virus that wiped out everyone else on earth, or so he thinks. This show is full of laughs but is also very unique. It doesn't fit with what you expect from a sitcom and I think that's what makes it so good. The dry humor is perfectly suited to the premise and the cast pulls it off flawlessly.

If you missed this show when it originally aired, no worries. The complete first season of The Last Man on Earth is available now to own on DVD. Not only do you get every episode to binge watch and then rewatch but there's also lots of extras including deleted scenes, commentaries, and a look at the creation of the show. Make sure to check out the gag reel for some extra laugh out loud moments!
The year is 2020, and after a deadly virus has swept the planet, only one man is left on earth:
Phil Miller (Will Forte). He used to be just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job. Now, in his RV, Phil searches the country for other survivors. He has traveled to every city, every town and every outpost in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and has found no one. As he returns to his hometown of Tucson, Phil comes to the painful realization that he is almost certainly the last living being on the face of the earth. All he wants is for someone – anyone – to find him in Tucson – preferably a woman.

I have one DVD copy of the first season of The Last Man on Earth to giveaway to a lucky reader in the US or Canada. Enter using the form below and get ready to laugh your head off!

Fall Fun ~ Making Pixel Art With Qixels

As the cooler weather sets in and the days grow shorter, I'm on the lookout for fun ways to entertain the kids inside. Since activities that do not include tablets, phones or video games are my top priority, I was excited to try out one of the latest toys from Imports Dragon - Qixels
Qixels are little cubes (kind of like pixels) that kids use to form designs, characters or whatever they can imagine. The cubes fuse together with water creating cool works of art! We received two different sets to try. One set contained everything we needed to create designs and let them dry naturally, while the other set came with a turbo dryer to speed up the process. The turbo dryer is tons of fun to use and doesn't even need batteries. It runs purely on kid power!

The sets come with templates so you can create particular things or you can skip the template and create something from your imagination. Getting the cubes to line up straight and even was a bit of a challenge but that's all part of the fun. The kids really loved when it came time to spray their designs with water. There's a little spray bottle you use to soak the design so the cubes fuse together. When the creations are fully dry, they are easy to remove from the trays and play with or display. Some kits even come with extras so you can make little scenes with your creations!

There are several kits available including:

Qixels Theme Refill Packs: 500 cubes, 4 design templates, 1 design tray, 1 display stand, 1 display base, 2 plug in accessories, 1 big bag and thread, 1 water sprayer, 1 instruction booklet.
MSRP: $14.99

Design Creator: Includes 1200 Qixels, 1 design tray, 8 templates, 1 storage tray, 1 instruction booklet and 1 water sprayer.
MSRP: $24.99

Qixels Fuse Blaster: 500 Qixels cubes, 4 design templates, 2 design trays, 2 display stands, 2 display bases, weapon accessories, 1 big bag and thread, 1 water sprayer, 1 instruction booklet.
MSRP: $24.99

Qixels Turbo Dryer: Includes 1 turbo dryer, 1 sprayer, 2 design trays, 2 stands, 2 display cases, 2 plug in accessories, 1 bag tag and thread, 500 Qixels cubes, 1 storage tray, 1 instruction booklet. Available exclusively at Toys R Us.
MSRP: $34.99

I highly recommend this fun toy if you're looking for an engaging activity to do with the kids. If you're like me and already trying to cross holiday gifts off your list, Qixels is a great place to start!

Paving the Way To A Bright Future #RESPWithRBC

I was quite young when I became a first time mom and we certainly weren't as established financially as we wanted to be when we welcomed our son into the world. When we were approached about starting an education savings plan for our son, I couldn't even imagine it was a possibility. I agreed to meet with the rep but had no intentions of signing up. There were just too many reasons not to - we didn't have much extra money...there were going to be even more expenses with the new baby...we had never invested before...I wasn't even working!

Thankfully, the rep we met with understood our position and had just as many reasons why we could and should start an RESP. We could start by just depositing a tiny amount each month to get started...the small amount would add up and grow over the next 18 years...the government would kick in some extra money to boost the account...and most importantly, we would be paving the way to a bright future for our little monkey!

Today, that same little monkey isn't so little anymore. He's just days away from starting high school and that post-secondary education, that once seemed so far away, is fast approaching. I can't even express how thankful I am that we had that meeting with an RBC rep 15 years ago and were presented with a solution that worked for us. Over the years, we have been able to make larger contributions as our financial situation improved and our family grew. That's one of the great things about RESPs, there is so much flexibility!

RBC has all the information you need to make the right choices when it comes to RESPs. Their website is a great resource for information and I've highlighted some of the benefits below:

You can decide how much you want to contribute - As little as $25/week can add up to over $50,000 in 18 years!

You decide how often you want to contribute - Weekly, monthly, annually, you decide!

You can have an account for an individual or set up a family account - Accounts can be set up for your children, grandchildren or even friends

You can set up automatic contributions - Have your money automatically come out of your bank account so you never forget.

Free money! - There are several government grants available to help boost your savings. Check out all the incentives HERE

It's free to open an account - RBC does not charge to set up an account and there's no annual administration fees.

I love when my kids talk about their future hopes and aspirations. So far, I have a conservation officer, a mechanic and a musician on my hands. I want them to be able to pursue anything they can dream of and their RESPs will definitely make that a little bit easier. We spend 18 years preparing our kids to head out into the world and an RESP is one more step we can all take to give them the best start possible.

***Twitter Party Alert***
The folks at RBC are definitely RESP experts and they want to share their knowledge with you. They are hosting a twitter party to discuss all things RESP so get your question ready and join the fun!
WHEN: September 17th at 9pm
WHERE: Twitter with #RESPwithRBC.
PRIZES: A chance to win one of six $150 Visa gift cards.

Packing An Efficient Diaper Bag with #LittleMoversPlus

When you have a baby, leaving the house can seem like such a chore! There are just so many items you feel like you may need while you're out. You and the baby have to get out and about  but you can't pack the whole nursery into your diaper bag so you have two options - lug around a diaper bag that weighs more than your baby or pare it down to just the essentials.
Over the years, I've learned that an efficient diaper bag is one with items that can serve double (or triple) duty. Here's what I pack in my diaper bag:

Receiving blankets - These are thin so thry take up very little room. They can easily serve as blankets, burp cloths, a changing pad or a sunshade.

Wipes - Wet wipes are so handy! Besides wiping bums, they are perfect for cleaning up dirty hands or faces, can be used to wipe down germy carts and a cool wipe on baby's forehead can help cool them down on hot days. Huggies Natural Care Plus wipes are my favorite because they are so soft and thick.

Diapers - Huggies Little Movers Plus are my preferred diaper because they are incredibly soft and so absorbent. In fact, they are Huggies most absorbent diaper! I also love that they stay in place so well because of the Double Grip Strips. These diapers are only available at Costco in sizes 3-6. Huggies Little Snugglers Plus are available in sizes 1-2 and offer the same level of absorbency and softness. Check out my video at the end of this post for an up close view of why I love these diapers.

A change of clothes - Babies are messy. At some point you will need a change for them and you should probably throw in an extra shirt for yourself as well.

A Hat - Obviously for sun protection but a hat can also be a great distraction when the baby gets fussy while shopping.

Diaper Cream - There's nothing worse than a diaper rash so we need to use cream at every diaper change.

Sunscreen - You need to keep reapplying when you are out. Remember to protect yourself too, not just the baby.

Baggies - These will come in handy for keeping soiled diapers and wipes sealed away from other items and they eliminate the smell. I keep my sunscreen and diaper cream in a baggie as well, just in case they leak.

Toy/Teether - I pack a toy that also acts as a teether.

There you have it, a lightweight diaper bag that will have you well prepared without going overboard.

Check out the video below to see why the only diapers you'll find in my bag are Huggies Little Movers Plus!
